Is MetaMask free to install?+

The MetaMask browser extension is free to install. Using blockchain networks may involve transaction fees, and third-party services can have their own costs.

Does MetaMask hold my funds for me?+

No. MetaMask is a self-custody wallet. Your wallet keys are controlled by you, and you are responsible for securing your Secret Recovery Phrase and approving transactions.

How do I know I'm installing the real extension?+

Start at the official metamask.io/download page and use its Chrome Web Store link. Be wary of sponsored search results, lookalike websites, and unsolicited messages.

Can I recover my wallet if I lose access?+

You can restore access using your Secret Recovery Phrase. If you lose that phrase and every device with access to the wallet, MetaMask cannot reset or recover it for you.
